Come and learn more about your clan! Did you know that the Scots and Irish have enriched the history and lives of Kern County residents?
Kern County Scots:
- Ewing Young, from Clan Douglas, was the second U.S. citizen to enter the San Joaquin Valley
- Captain Joseph Walker, from Clan Walker, of Walker's Pass fame
- Kit Carson, from Galloway District, with the Fremont Expedition
- Richard Owens, from Clan MacEwen, Owens Valley namesake
- Lt. George Derby, from Aberdeen District, Derby Acres Fame
- General Edward Beale, from Clan Denzell, established Fort Tejon & Tejon Ranch
- Truxtun Beale, the son of General Beale, left memorials to his parents in the form of the Clock Tower, the Memorial Library, and a city park
- Lt. Williamson, from Clan MacWilliams, explored the Tehachapi Mountains for the railroad
- William Blake, from Clan Lamont, explored Tehachapi Pass and Tejon Pass for the railroad
- Richard Keyes, from Clan MacKay, began Kern's gold rush and was the namesake of Keyesville
- Major Aneas Gordon, from Clan Gordon, is the Gordon's Ferry fame
- John Hamilton, from Clan Hamilton, began commercial oil development
- William McFarland, from Clan MacFarlene, built the first Kern County Hospital
- Captain John Baker, from Stirling District, was editor of the Kern County Echo and his ranch, Hart Park, was the first to use natual gas
- Tom Means, from Clan Menzies, made the oil discovery which led to the Great Oil Boom
- John Searles, from Dundee District, discovered gold at Goler
- Arthur McFadden, from Clan MacFadyen, founded the town of Lamont and named it after his mother's clan
