You don't have to be Scottish to join the Society; all that is asked of you is to share an interest in things Scottish. Annual membership dues are $40 for families and $25 for individuals.

The Kern County Scottish Society was established in July 1971. The Society was formed to promote Scottish heritage and cultural traditions in Kern County, and gather for social functions. Some of these traditions include Highland Games, Highland and Scottish Country Dancing, genealogy, piping and drumming, tartans, Highland dress, and Gaelic, the native language of the Highlands and Islands.

The Kern County Scottish Society is a member of the Arts Council of Kern, the Downtown Business Association, the Tehachapi Arts Coalition, and we serve as advisors for the Scottish Club at CSUB. Our activities throughout the year include the Robert Burns Night (Jan.); the Bakersfield Scottish Gathering & Games (Apr.); a Banger Booth at the Street Fair (April-June); an Annual Barbecue (Sept); Guy Fawkes Night, Kirkin' o' the Tartan (Nov), the Christmas Parade, and our Annual Christmas Party.

In 1998, the Society became a non-profit, educational corporation. If you are interested in joining the Kern County Scottish Society Inc, or just finding out more about it, you are invited to attend any of our general meetings. The meetings are on the fourth Tuesday of each month. You can also call KCSS at 661-865-8890 or email kernscot@gmail.com
